Instruments of Love

By Julie Cramer

"A father to the fatherless … God sets the lonely in families" — (Psalm 68:5–6).

Imagine an office furnished with folding trays and plastic lawn chairs. This is how the Orphan Outreach team set up shop in Dallas. Three years later they often marvel at all the Lord has done to serve children and families in Guatemala, Honduras, Russia and India —in His right time and through His people.

Far from folding trays, Orphan Outreach is now blessed to office out of the Hope Center in Plano, Texas, a new facility that is home to 41 Christian ministries. With its new address, the Lord continues to expand the ministries of Orphan Outreach, building more partnerships, and reaching even more children than when it first began in 2007.

Orphan Outreach focuses on strategic partnerships primarily in four countries: Guatemala, Honduras, India, and Russia. The seven-person stateside team brings together a combined total experience of more than 50 years in orphan and child care. And with the help of a growing network of supporters, Orphan Outreach has been blessed to serve more than 14,100 children last year alone through programs and humanitarian aid totaling $418,000, with renovations to orphanages and schools over $207,000. Orphan Outreach programs impacted children throughout the world including precious children living with HIV in India, children working in the city dump in Honduras, orphans and street children in Guatemala and teens forced to leave the Russian orphanage system with little support.  Thirty mission teams served throughout the world in various ways including building homes for impoverished families; operating medical and dental clinics in rural villages; building playgrounds by the dump in Honduras; bringing clean running water in India slums; and bringing the love of Christ to orphanages throughout Russia.

These acts of service make up only a fraction of what the Lord accomplished through Orphan Outreach and its many supporters, churches and trip participants. And—all over the world—one thing remains true of children. They all want to be loved and are loved by our Savior. We have the privilege as believers to be instruments of that love.
