WAYfm and MNN Russia Ministry trip

St Petersburg, Russia
Friday, August 13, 2010 to Sunday, August 22, 2010
ITINERARY - 10 DAYS / 9 NIGHTS
Mission Code: RU10-08WFM

Join WAYfm and Mission Network News in serving orphans in Russia. This team will do hands on evangelism with orphans at the Crisis Center #15. Orphan Outreach has had a long relationship with Crisis Center #15 in St. Petersburg, Russia. This Center acts as triage for the children of St. Petersburg who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned. Children who are brought here range in age from infants to teenagers. Many are newborns who have been abandoned on the street or found in dumpsters. The team will also visit and minister to orphans in orphanages in the region of Leningrad.

About Russia
When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, its shaky orphan-care system also fell. Alcohol consumption increased to 10 times the U.S. level. The instances of divorce also climbed, along with the HIV-infection rate, which is now one of the highest in the world. And, according to a 2007 UNICEF report, the annual number of children without parental care in Russia "has more than doubled over the last 10 years, despite falling birth rates." Currently, there are over 750,000 children in the orphanage system and hundreds of thousands more living in the streets. The goal of Orphan Outreach in Russia is to involve and empower local churches to do the work of orphan care. The ministry focus is on orphan graduates-those orphans who are leaving the orphanage system. Without essential living skills, education, or employment possibilities, many of these young people resort to addictions, prostitution, or suicide. To help prevent such outcomes, Orphan Outreach has begun to support local orphanages and ministries to bridge a child's transition from orphan-care to independent living.

Team Leader
Paula Hayes, Director of Administrative Services, will lead the team in Russia. She has over 26 years of management experience in the telecommunications industry and 5 years administrative experience in orphan ministry. Paula has led numerous mission trips to Russia and Kenya and has been ministering to orphans since 1999.

Greg Yoder, Director, MNN, will lead the team in Russia. Greg Yoder is the Anchor and Executive Director of MNN. He will lead the team in Russia. MNN is designed to not only provide news and information around the world, but provide ways for Christians to get out of the pew and do something for God. Every Christian can do something -- they can pray, they can give or they can go. Greg has traveled extensively throughout Russia, including trips with his wife to adopt their daughter, Anastasia.

Orphan Outreach Mission Trip Baggage Policies

Please note that starting in 2013, all mission trip participants will need to cover the cost of their second checked baggage. When traveling internationally, most airlines allow passengers to carry two checked bags at 50 pounds maximum. Typically, your 1st checked bag is free and your 2nd bag costs approximately $40- $75, one way, depending on where you are traveling.

To save the cost of having to pay for the 2nd bag on the return flight home you can stuff a bag inside your other bag, or in some cases leave behind in your country of service. Otherwise, you will have to pay for your 2nd bag. Utilizing your 1st checked bag for personal use and your 2nd bag for humanitarian aid and supplies will ensure an empty bag that can be left behind or stowed inside your 1st bag for the return flight.

You can purchase an expandable, rollable duffle bag at Walmart for $15.
