Orphan Outreach

God Is Our Sustainer

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:2

It’s budget season for us at Orphan Outreach, which never fails to be a stressful or stress-producing time for us. The question during these discussions always looms, “How are we going to do all of this?” That’s a particularly scary question for us because we’re a passionate bunch. We’re in this for the kids and we don’t ever want to imagine we can’t help them all. But of course, we have to face limits. We can only help those that God places in our path.

As we work through this time, it would be easy to conform to the world and adopt the scarcity mindset which sounds like, “How are we going to do this? There’s not enough, we can’t do it. Where’s the funding going to come from?” But that’s not helpful or healthy.

On the other hand, we could conform to the world by listening to a different sound track- that sounds like, “I can do it all. It all depends on me. I have to make this happen. I need to work hard and do more!” These aren’t true statements either. This is God’s ministry! While He has seen fit to choose me and work through me, He certainly doesn’t need me, and I don’t want to conform to those ways of thinking. Instead, I want to be transformed by the renewing of my mind, so I can remember and believe that this is God’s ministry. He’s in control. He’s going to provide whatever we need. We can trust Him along the way.

I don’t want to align myself with the lies of this world. Instead, I want to agree with God’s truth, and allow that truth to do its work in me.
