Please Pray for Magdalena, age 12, in Guatemala.
Magdalena Sosof, age 12, is in the 4th grade at The Good Shepherd Baptist School in Santiago, Guatemala and lives in Panabaj, a small village outside of Santiago. She has a brother and a sister, and they live with their parents in a house built with the help of Orphan Outreach. Magdalena’s mom suffers from epilepsy, but embroiders as a living and her dad sells wood. Magdalena enjoys embroidering with her mom and playing basketball. She hopes to be a teacher one day. By God’s provision, grace, and work through the efforts of Pastor Diego and Orphan Outreach, Magdalena’s hopes can someday be a reality.
Many children in Guatemala only hope to receive an education. Only five out of ten students who enter primary school in urban areas complete primary school, as opposed to only two out of ten in rural areas, such as Panabaj. In addition, only 24% of the country’s population attends secondary school. These children face multiple disadvantages in addition to a lack of education and high illiteracy rates including chronic poverty, high mortality, poor health, and undernutrition. According to UNESCO’s Education for All – Global Monitoring Report, 49% of children under 5 in Guatemala suffer from undernutrition.
Please be praying for Magdalena and her family and also for the other students at The Good Shepherd Baptist School, which just started this year. Pray for God to provide funding for operations, renovations, educational materials, and scholarships for students to attend school.
