Christian recording artist Carmen D’Arcy travels
with Orphan Outreach to Guatemala

Christian recording artist Carmen D’Arcy traveled on the Midday Connection mother/daughter trip as a worship leader for the team and the children they ministered to throughout the week. D'Arcy, a talented singer/songwriter, leads worship and directs the choir at the 6,000-member Grace Community Church near Indianapolis. She recently released a new worship album, A Place Called Grace. In 2006, her song "I Want to Sing" was selected as the GMA Academy Worship Song of the Year.

Carmen is the mother of 4 children, the youngest of which was adopted from Guatemala. This personal connection led her to want to go back and serve the children of Guatemala. Orphan Outreach staff met Carmen at the National Religious Broadcasters convention in the spring and invited her to join the Midday trip.

Carmen wrote on her blog during the trip, “As a mother of an adopted Guatemalan baby, I´ve been so captivated by the beautiful 5 year-old boys who look so much like our Guatemalan son who is now 5 as well. Oh, how I thank God for the privilege of being his mama...and yet I can´t help wondering about the children who are all waiting and growing up in orphanages here and other places around the world who may likely never be in a forever family. God, I pray for them now...”.

While in Guatemala, Carmen debuted her new song “Do You See What I See?”, which she co-wrote with Orphan Outreach in mind. Reflecting on the ministry trip Carmen continued, “… I think for this day, I will just ask God to give me a heart of joy like the children I played with today. And I will continually be asking God how I can join Him where He is already at work as he CLEARLY is here in Guatemala.”

Also on the trip was Christian recording artist Sarah Scharbrough who accompanied Carmen on the guitar.  Sarah was especially moved by seeing the children from the daycare at the dump as they attended the children’s museum,  “Watching the glow on the faces of children at the museum was simply unforgettable for me.  I feel like the children, perhaps for the first time, may have been getting a glimpse into their future - a look at what life may hold for them outside of growing up and living at the dump.  If I could bottle up the wonder and joy on their faces, I would be holding an priceless treasure.”

“We were so blessed to have Carmen and Sarah on the trip,” said Amy Norton, Director of Programs for Orphan Outreach.  “They began our mornings and ended our days with worship.  It made such a huge impact on the team and really helped us prepare our hearts each day. They also sang at each orphanage and the team was able to join in with the girls.  It made such a difference in our time with the children.  We were so thankful to have them with us,” said Norton.
